"Al igual que"?

"Al igual que"?

I'm not sure what al or igual means when put together. 'To the equal" doesn't make since.

"Al igual que" serves to liken two concepts or situations. It is used in a similar manner to "like" or "as". For example:

"Los Mexicanos, al igual que los Puertorriqueños, se sienten muy orgullosos de su cultura. " - "Mexicans , like Puertoricans, feel very proud of their culture"

"Julian demuestra un alto nivel académico, al igual que Marianne" - "Julian displays a high academic level, as does Marianne".

It looks to me like it would be translated as "To what equal?" (¿Al igual qué?)

Similar to saying that nothing can compare to it.

Or maybe as a math term? Saying, "What is the result?".

How is it used in a sentence? Then, maybe we can help understand the meaning a little better grin

However, i agree with Dan if that's all to the sentence.
