Heidita,

This is not a question but rather a comment. I am new to this site and I really appreciate its instructional format however I was very extremely surprised to see you bringing in the forum a subject that excels at starting polemics and hatred. FYI there is no possible total agreement in religion, racism and politics. We each have our personal thoughts on those matters and they should remain personal since tolerance in human beings is very limited.

A word of advice, if you want to keep this forum friendly stay away from those 3 subjects that have divided the world for centuries and keep it at Spanish discussions only. Many other sites/forum exist to discuss those matters.

Thank you.

Heidita? Friendly? You are new here! Wait til you've been banished to the dunce corner the first 100 times. - 0074b507, May 1, 2010
Poke the bear with a stick is a phrase that comes to mind for this thread. Is that in the Phrasebook? - 0074b507, May 1, 2010
"Grab a tiger by the tail" is another one. "Start something you can't finish" too. - ian-hill, May 1, 2010
LOL gfreed, well she is Spanish (hot blooded, high temper) but that would go against what renaerules says about freedom of discussion, wouldn't? - sfrenchie, May 1, 2010

I must say, as someone who has enjoyed this forum just the way it is for some time now, I have to disagree with you!

I have been very impressed with the ability of our forum members to discuss various charged topics with civility and fairness. I have appreciated the fact that this forum, including its members, is not afraid to explore the issues that face us today from all perspectives. How can we ignore certain topics and expect them to just go away or take care of themselves? Someone, somewhere, has to be willing to broach difficult subjects and discuss them without feeling offended.

So why does a Spanish/English forum need to concern itself with topics of race, religion, and politics? Whether we like it or not these issues are an integral part of Spanish-speaking, as well as English-speaking, culture. These topics will be discussed in the streets of Spain and the neighborhoods of Mexico just like they are in the coffee shops of small-town America. Learning to discuss all issues cross-culturally, with a logical, fair attitude is a very important skill to foster. I would ask you to please reconsider the reasons why you do not feel comfortable discussing these issues that drive cultural motivations every day...

With all respect,

Your fellow SpanishDictian.

I think that we should ban all controversial topics since palabrotas are banned; I never can reply to the topic. - 0074b507, May 1, 2010
I am perfectly comfortable in discussing any subject, I just thought it was not the place for it though. I agree with you about the fact that those subjects are common to our nations. If we are here to learn (Not to argue) then let's do it in the... - sfrenchie, May 1, 2010

"rules of engagement" (up to date "rules of battle") = "reglas de enfrentamiento"

According to my understanding of the RoE of this site, comments on other contributors are not permitted.
