Preparing for the medical interpreter exam

Hola,

After looking over the DSHS study booklets for the Washington State medical interpreter exam, I've decided I'm going to go for it over the summer (they are here: http://www.dshs.wa.gov/LTC/). It seems quite a bit easier than I thought it would be, and I'm quite excited about it. I'm fairly confident that I can pass the written part, and hopefully with some studying I can pass the oral part (it will be many months before I sit for this section). Has anyone else gone through this process with DSHS or a another certification exam? Any advice or good resources to use in preparation?

Gracias!

I would say try to find some kind of way to interact with medical spanish as a practice. Maybe read the spanish language medical journals (if they exist, perhaps internationally), a medical spanish course, or hispanic medical professionals with whom you can chat. There are also several books on vocabulary that have sections/are dedicated to medical spanish. Might not be fully inclusive but would be a good way to keep your memory active.

Actually, I work in a hospital and use Spanish there fairly often. Have you taken this exam or a similar one? Thanks for your response! - aceydoubleyou, Apr 26, 2010
