"Counseling services" in Spanish?!

Saludos a todos,

I could really use your help...I've been struggling for several days over how best to translate the term "counseling" into Spanish; I'm trying to translate a list of agencies offering counseling services, and my sentence would go something like this: "This agency provides counseling for individuals and families in the areas of domestic violence, substance abuse, relationships, etc."

Up until recently I'd been using the term "consejeria" since many of the Latino families I work with seem to use and understand this term. Come to find out, however, "consejeria" really means "department", at least according to Spanishdict and my enormous Spanish-to-Spanish dictionary (which I believe weighs close to 50 lbs. so must be good for something, right?) grin

I feel embarrassed that I've probably been using the wrong term all this time...i'd like to make my translation as accurate and polite as possible, so I appreciate your help and insights! Muchisimas gracias. grin

Take heart - "consejeria" may be the name of a department but the word doesn't mean "department". So stick with "consejero" and "consejeria". I'll try this one on my daughter who is a) a qualified counsellor and b) a Spanish speaker. Has she yet connected the two I wonder.

How about "servicios de consejero" for counseling services?
