Grande is one of those spanish words that you can use as either masculine or feminine.

Grande or gran, it doesn't change with gender. You can say un hombre grande or un gran hombre.

Those two phrases do not mean the same thing. Grande is a "big" man, and gran is a "great" man. - --Mariana--, Apr 25, 2010
Marianne is right. In the gran/grande case, this changes the meaning. There are some words that work as you say though, like primero, which, before a masculine singular noun is 'primer' and after anything else is 'primera', 'primeros', or 'primeras'. - MacFadden, Apr 25, 2010
