Translating "the thought you put into this"
How would I say the following sentence in spanish?
I appreciate the thought you put into this.
Agradezco el pensamiento que pones en esto. ?
Or maybe it's better to say:
I appreciate the thought you gave this.
Thank you!

I would say, Esfuerzo
"Agradezco el esfuerzo que diste a esto."
Pensamiento doesn't work with this context.
I agree with julianchivis. More generally, translation shouldn't mean changing each English word for a corresponding Spanish word, nor even a phrase for a phrase. The art is to take a statement/question/paragraph/book or whatever in one language and write or say it in the other so that its meaning and all its nuances are conveyed to the hearer/reader.
This is not an impossible goal, instead it's a new freedom to perform the function of communication in the way that works best independent of stultifying considerations of exactness or sometimes even grammar..
