Is this correct?

A veces, mis amigos y yo discutíamos nuestras creencias, pero yo nunca presionaba a ellos para que adoptar mis creencias y ellos me hacían lo mismo.

I'm trying to say: "Sometimes, my friends and I would discuss our beliefs, but I never pressured them to adopt my beliefs and they did the same for me."

I'm trying to correct a composition of mine for my Spanish class... this was my original sentence:

A veces, mis amigos y yo discutíamos nuestras creencias, pero nunca se intentaban convertir.

I was trying to say: "Sometimes, my friends and I would discuss our beliefs, but we never tried to convert each other."

I though the "se" would suffice for the "each other", but my professor said "¿QUIÉNES: ELLOS A TÍ O UNO AL OTRO?" so I don't think it came off as I intended.

If my original sentence can be salvaged, could you help me correct it? Or if my new sentence is completely fine, then just let me know and I'll use that.

Sorry if I confused you! Thanks for your help! =)

I think your professor is pointing out that "se intentaban" doesn't include yourself. Consequently, I suggest that you replace it with "nos intentamos". You could reinforce this by adding "a otros".

The final result then says: "A veces, mis amigos y yo discutíamos nuestras creencias, pero nunca nos intentamos convertir a otros."

I hope that your professor will like this.

PS Most Spanish speakers that I have known would have said "yo y mis amigos". They aren't as bashful as English speakers about putting themselves first.

It isn't about being bashful I am extrovert ! it is about writing and speaking English well. It is better to write/say " My friends and I " than I and my friends - FELIZ77, Apr 22, 2010
