Werewolves is right, it's la música rock or just el rock. I've never heard la música piedra.

I've heard people say 'la música rock', which is certainly more accurate than 'la música pierda'. Very gringo. Genre is 'género' for a book or movie. I'm relatively sure that translates over to music as well.
