¿Va a estar terminado pronto? VS ¿Va a terminar pronto?

¿Va a estar terminado pronto? VS ¿Va a terminar pronto?

My mom says the first one is incorrect for "Are you going to be finished soon" and you should only use the second. She says that the first is easily thought of as "Are you going to be dead soon" and not "finished soon". Any thoughts? Gracias de antemano.

Again, I agree with your mom. You should get her to join Spanishdict. It looks like she'd be very helpful. wink

I think that you can say "estar terminado" if you are referring to a thing; a building, a year, a painting, a job, etc. but not to refer to a person.

El edificio va a estar terminado pronto.

Nuestro proyecto debería estar terminado pronto.

Mañana va a estar terminado el trabajo.

No va a terminar de comer pronto.

Voy a terminar una relación pronto.

Mañana vamos a terminar la escuela.
