What does "que" mean as here? Why wouldn't "como" be better? Gracias.

The original sentence was like this..(it's from Pimsleur)

We can bring you everything Podemos traerle todo All the papers Todos los papeles All the things Todas las cosas So you can read everything afterwards Así puede leer todo después Say: Thanks. I can read everything Gracias. Puedo leer todo That’s the same as going Es lo mismo que ir Maybe better Quizás mejor Now suppose you and a colleague are talking about a trade show that just ended. La colega le dice: Esa exposición fue divertida. Ask: Enjoyable? ¿Divertida? For me, the trade show wasn’t enjoyable Para mi, la exposición no fue divertida. Ella: Bueno, para mí, sí. Y además, fue un éxito. Dígale a ella que ella puede estar equivocada. (Usted) puede estar equivocada. Say: How do you know it was a success. ¿Cómo sabe si fue un éxito. We have to check the numbers Tenemos que verificar los números. The numbers could be wrong Los números podrían estar equivocados.

Jeez, I said the same as you:

Why do you say in English :

He is taller than his father.

and not: he is taller that his father.

that =que

Más alto que su padre.

Would sound much better to a Spaniard.

So es lo mismo que....the same as

As is often translated as como, same as that...so why not?

Well, the structure in English is with than, in Spanish in your example with que...

I think that you need to provide us with what you're trying to say in English. Are you comparing two things ...This is the same as....or are you trying to say Es iqual que..

It's all the same to me if you...

It makes no difference to me that you leave (go).

Jeez, why wouldn't "that" be better in this sentence?:

I am more beautiful than he.

Makes no sense in what I am asking. Thanks though. - jeezzle, Apr 21, 2010
It's the same thing "as" going but using que and not como? I don't get it. - jeezzle, Apr 21, 2010

In this sentence, "Como" would not work because you are comparing two things.
