What I've heard in Mexico doing landscape construction projects.

1. hierba (plant). This is "grass" as the plant itself.
2. césped (lawn) Keep off the grass (lawn).
3. pasto (grass ) Used for sod. (Pasto en rollo.)

Of the three....Soy alergico al pasto.
