And if you aren't sure...use "ellos". If it turns out to be women, you can profess your ignorance of the language. Women might believe you. Men may punch your lights out first if you call them "ellas"

Hi and welcome to the forum.
If you have even one man in a group of women you use "ellos." As Fidalgo says, if you have a group of all women you'd say "ellas."
