Interesting facts about Cuba?
I will be teaching my first college level class as a TA this next week. I will be giving a lecture over Cuba for first semester Spanish students.
Are you from Cuba? I am looking for interesting facts that aren't available online. ![]()

Here's an excellent independent film from Cuba: Viva Cuba. You will get to see lots of the country and hear the dialect.
This is un poco, but just to give you some support--my first husband lived in Cuba as a child under Batisda in the 50s. (He was born in 1943.) His dad was an exec with a meat company. He remembers needing to leave the county in a hurry during the revolution, but before that, one of his most enduring memories was of the men drinking their very strong coffee out of little cups, no matter what the temperature.
He learned to like strong coffee there (which is good, as I am Italian and cannot abide what we call 'spoiled water!').
He also recalled all the old US cars there, and how welcoming people were even though he was a gringo.
p.s. He now teaches political science at a small college in Massachusetts.
I was hoping that we had some Cuban members here to give you some more info. :-(
I wish I could help you with info about Cuba, but I don't have anything. I do want to congratulate you on this assignment. You've worked hard to get there, and I know you'll do a great job. I'm sure you'll really enjoy it, as will your students!!
Also worth a look are the following websites:
The Cuban Communist Party's Newspaper Online
The Cuban Government's Official Page
I also reccomend doing a keyword search on NPR or your favorite news source. There are a few new reports on NPR, some political, one cultural.
Teaching went very well, thank you all so much for you help. the video was a bit late, but I will be sure to watch it and send it on to mis profes
Gracias por todo.
