In the Puerto Rican culture, what is the difference between using "te quiero" and "te amo"?

I don't know about in Puerto Rican culture specifically, but I have gotten the impression that, in general, te quiero can be used with anyone you love, and te amo is used with your significant other. I'm not 100% sure about this though, so let's wait and see if anyone can back me up on this.

I agree with you, and I live in Puerto Rico. One exception to this rule of thumb is when parents use "te amo" with their kids. - Gekkosan, ABR 18, 2010
Ah. That's good to know. Thanks, Gekkosan! - MacFadden, ABR 18, 2010
