Playing Chess in English

Hi!

I'm playing chess at the moment and I wondered about the names in English of the different statuettes (if you can call them that) as well as the expressions used in the game.

The following are the Spanish names for the figurines:

Peón, Torre, Caballo, Alfiles, Rey, Reina (Dama)

Terms and Expressions:

"Comer"/ "Matar"una pieza, white ensemble of statuettes is called "las blancas", and the black is called "las negras" and finally "Jaque mate"- I presume it's check something?

Thank you!smile

Peón - Pawn

Torre - Castle, or Rook

Caballo - Knight

Alfiles - Bishop

Rey - King

Reina - Queen

Comer (How lovely smile ) - Capture or Take

Las negras and las blancas are simply Black and White

So not so different grin
