The Spanish speaking native people use 3 different verbs to express liking for people -( whereas the English only use 1 verb: to like). In spanish the 3 verbs are:

  1. gustar = to like in a general way with new people you only know a little l eg Maria le gusta Juan=Maria likes Juan

  2. Querer - to express a stronger liking for someone eg a Good friend: "te quiero mucho" =I like you alot/very much.

  3. Amar = to love expresing the strongest healthy form of human attachment.

El hombre dijó a su esposa "María, te amo mucho" =the man said to his wife "Maria I love you very much."

There is a verb adorar but many- including myself - would consider that verb expresses a feeling more appropriate for Worship of God alone.(not man)
