What is the difference between "my name is..."
I'm just wondering what the difference is between Me llamo.... or Me nombre es.... I learned "Me llamo" here but i learned "Me nombre es" in high school when i first took Spanish. Should they be used at different times? Or is one more appropriate then the other. thank you for any help

Me llamo is the 1st person singular tense of the reflexive verb llamarse.
Me llama means, literally "I call myself". However it is commonly translated in a more figurative sense as "I am".
Me nombre es uses the 1st person singular tense of the verb "ser" (to be) and is trtanslated as "My name is".
I don't think one is more appropriate than the other, however, I get a sense that "Me llamo Moe" is more common than "Mi nombre es Moe."
Like Renae and Moe saids, both expressions are correct but with the suggestion from Moe in the sense that last one is more common.
Just another precision that maybe could clarify same confusion:
Prince said:
a) Me llamo ...... This perfectly right
b) Me nombre es... But this one has a typo. The correct phrase is "Mi nombre es" instead of "Me nombre"...
Finally I would say for example: Mi nombre es Carlos....
Me llamo = I am called
Mi nombre es = My name is
Although I am not a native, I have never heard of or come across a preference for one phrase over the other.
