Harry Potter en Español
Hola a todos.
I am enjoying learning Spanish so much that I am going to attempt to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Spanish! I'm a little scared that it may take me a year to do it, but I feel like I will learn a lot by attempting to read it.
Has anyone else done this, and if so, do you have any tips?
Thanks!!!

I've done it with a couple of books. It's kind of rough, as at first it's difficult to comprehend what is going on. However, eventually you begin to better understand the grammtical organization. Still, it takes time as you will have to look up a lot of words.
My advice would be to set a goal for reading each day. Maybe 5 pages a day. Good luck!
I have read Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal, Harry Potter y el Prisonero de Azkaban and Harry Potter y el Caliz de Fuego.
I did it using a technique called Listening-Reading, which I found incredibly effective - I listened to the Spanish audio and read along with the English text a couple of times, I then listened to the Spanish audio again, and followed along with the Spanish text. I haven't completed the whole technique yet, so I can't tell you exactly how effective it is, but I was an absolute beginner when I started doing the method, and I can now decipher most texts if given enough time and I can understand 70-80% of Harry Potter without using a dictionary.
Please feel free to PM me if you want to know more .
It's hard at first. You'd better also have a book in English or your native language to know the context. Sometimes I understand every single word I read, but I still can't guess the meaning of the sentence. Every language is different. With it's aromas.
I loved Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal. I saw the movie so I sort of knew what to expect from the book. Nevertheless, I had to look up words in the dictionary constantly.
"Lechuza" and "varita" are now a permanent part of my vocabulary.
Thanks - that helps a lot! I've been reading a magazine "Siempre Mujer", but I really want to try Harry Potter.
The Listening-Reading technique sounds interesting, so I may try that if I can find the Spanish audio.
Thanks again!
