¿Vivía a dos pasos?

Tengo que traducir las siguientes frases y quiero asegurarme que mis traducciones son correctas.

Vivía a dos pasos- He/I took life one step at a time?

Perdió el norte- He/she/Ud. lost his way.

Va a cantar como un jilguero- He's/She's/Ud's going to sing like a hummingbird.

Puso el dedo en la llaga- He/She/Ud. hit/touched a sore spot (fig.)

Perdió el norte- He/she/Ud. lost his way. (figurative)

Va a cantar como un jilguero- He's/She's/Ud's going to sing like a hummingbird.

(figurative, often used with criminals)

Puso el dedo en la llaga- He/She/Ud. hit/touched a sore spot (fig.)

I don't understand the Spanish parts to those questions but the English sentences are ones I have heard many times..

In English those sentences have dual meanings..

eg: He/She/Ud. hit/touched a sore spot (this is an emotional spot..) but can also mean that someone punch you in the arm but already have a wound.

Going to sing like a hummingbird - can mean that someone is going to rat you out to the police.. and can also mean your going to sing beautifully.. usage is dependent on context.

About the Spanish Sentence I'd also like to know if this is same as english?
