Suppose today is Tuesday. Can we use them to refer to the same Sunday?. Thank you.

You could definitely use both of these to refer to the same Sunday. At the beginning of the week you would more likely use "on Sunday" while at the end of the week you would probably say "last Sunday", but either would most likely be understood at any time of the week.
I would probably say "on Sunday" to avoid confusion.
It was what I was thinking about. I mean, it happens the same in Spanish.
Today is thirteenth of April. If I say "el domingo pasado" it is problable that I want to refer to the fourth of April not to eleventh of April. But that confusion exists in Spanish. It is better to say "last Sunday" if I want to refer to the fourth. And saying "on Sunday" to refer to the eleventh of April.
On Sunday would be the better phrase to use. More people would be able to understand the sentence.
Yea, the easiest way to avoid having to clarify would be to just use the past tense of the verb and the noun "(el) domingo" (the article "el" would be optional in conversational Spanish). i. e. ¿qué hiciste (el) domingo? This way, there's little room for misinterpreatation.
