How do you say "was" in spanish?

I am working on a project and I need to say "The vacation was a lot of fun and a lot of laughs". Help please!

this is hard for me. So preterite is used, but yera used ser, gekkosan used estar. Both are ok? - kdos, Nov 20, 2014

Was = Era, estaba, fué. In this case you have to use "fué."
La vacasión vacación fue mucha diversión y muchas sonrisas (literary).
you can also say "La vacasión vacación fué extraordinaria y me reí mucho ( The vacation was wonderful and I laughted a lot).
