Permitanme presentarle a mi nueva huésped. ¿Y quizas darla una nombre? Ella vive detrás un cuadro en mi salon.

(please meet my new guest. And perhaps give her a name. She has taken up residence behind a picture in my lounge room.).

(She arrived yesterday - we've had a lot of rain and it tends to drive the spiders inside...I'm okay with that - as long as she stays over there wink

And for the spider-lovers in the formum she's a Australian Huntsman (Family Sparassidae) - pretty-much harmless..

Annie, are you kidding...harmless?.....That thing would give me a heart attack if I saw it in my living room. big surprise shock rolleyes LOL LOL LOL

Ataque al corazónis the Spanish word for heart attack. Maybe call him "Ataque" for short. wink

Years ago, in a big urban area like Philadelphia, we found a fruit bat flying through our house. I am still off balance from that event. Fortunately, my daughter was a newborn and was in my arms at the time. Otherwise, I think I would have run out of the house without her. The reason I know that to be true is, once we were outside, I realized my five year old son was still in the house. Some great mom huh?! Anyway, all is well with him. However, the thought of anything unexpected or uninvited in my home still creeps me out!alt text

I know that this might sounds odd...but I respect that you are not squishing or spraying her...how about naming her after a graceful dancer with long legs? L. PS-I have to confess that I am a bit of a hypocrite...I do squish mosquitos as their bites linger for weeks... lo siento...

How about an ironic spanish name - Renacuaja (means titch)

I can't tell how big she is but her legs look pretty sturdy!! I'm quite glad she's your 'guest' not mine Annie, I must admit. wink

Annie ..... please tell me you're joking. That's not a real spider, right? It's about 6 inches across!!!!! I'm afraid to say that any spider bigger than 2" freaks me out big surprise I was talking to some friends last night saying how much we'd love to visit Oz. ....

..... Hmmm maybe I'll stay in Blighty after all. Yes, it may be cold ... it may be rainy and the food may be rubbish but at least we don't freaking tarantulas.

¡dios mío! Que bueno que estás en Australia y estoy muy lejos de alla. Creo que no la mataría tampoco pero por supuesto la correría de la casa. ¿Cómo te parece llamarla Arañote o Bella o talvez Princesa?

You know I did consider Charlotte "La teterana de Charlotte" was the first book I "read", and I use that word loosely, in Spanish. - nonombre, Apr 10, 2010

A new name, how about 'Squish'?

Rats, mice, or snakes are not a problem, but spiders really freak me out. I've probably seen one too many movies where the spider jumps onto the back of some unsuspecting passerby.

It looks quite big for a spider. How big is it?

you can tell who are the arachnophobes, nervously asking 'how big is it'?.......I'd like to know too! - galsally, Apr 10, 2010
I measured her (when she had her legs not crunched up - about 8 centimetres - quite small really... - nonombre, Apr 10, 2010

Thanks guys,

Think I"m gonig to go go with "Ana Araña" and if she objects to having a name similar to the landlady I will just say to her "Suck it up Ana Araña".

No seriously this arvo (it's Sunday morning here) I will transport her outside to my garden (with the old paper and glass trick) but I might do that before I head off to the pub this arvo - want to have my wits about me - don't want Ana Araña climbing on me by mistake wink
