what is the definition of "roflès"?

I am translating a book from French to English in which many Spanish words appear. In this case, two gypsy women go out to sell their wares (ribbons and lace) and cry out in the street : "Aie, roflès! Aie roflès!"

I am suspicious that any word that uses an accent grave "è" is not Spanish. Spanish makes heavy use of the accent aigu "é", which in Spanish is called a tilde, but not the reverse accent.

I could not find this word in the Span¡shD!ct dictionary, the Real Acedemica Española dictionary, my own big Spanish to English dictionary or my French to English dictionary. A Google search for "roflès" yielded no meaningful result.

Thank you. I'm afraid my attempts were as unfruitful as yours. Maybe it is a Romani word? - folienina, Apr 10, 2010
