How about "el delfíno"? The dolphin is a mammal, too. (I think...)

I was thinking about dromedary in English and it turns out that dromedary translated to "el dromedario". Will that do? I suppose it is a kind of animal rather than a specific one...but perhpas it would work for you.

You won't find its meat anywhere anymore because it is extinct, but "el dodó" was a bird and begins with a "d" in both Spanish and English.

Dorada is a gilt head fish, or Dorado in English. Sorry, that's all I can think of.
