Animal Sounds

Question

When I was learning German, I was fascinated by the ways German speakers perceived animal sounds differently from English speakers. I have never seen a list of animal sounds in Spanish and would like to compile one. For example:

cat - meow / gato - miau

cow - moo / vaca - mu

dog - bow wow / perro - guau guau

rooster - cock-a-doodle-doo / gallo - qui quiri qui

Here is a link to many animal sounds in English, but there are no corresponding "translations" into Spanish. List Challenge: List an animal and the sound it makes in English and Spanish!

birds - tweet/ las aves - pío

pig - oink oink/ el cerdo - huic-huic

rooster - cock-a-doodle-doo/ el gallo - quiquiriqui

sheep -baa / la oveja - bee

horse - naaaay/ el caballo - jiiiiiii

owl - hoo(t)/ el búho -uu uu

goat - baaa/ la cabra - beeee

frog - ribbit/ la rana - cruá cruá

dove - coo/ la paloma - cu-curru-cu-cú

donkey -heehaw / el burro - iii-aah

sheep 'baa' - goat 'mee' (or, perhaps, 'may' with English transcription) - samdie, Apr 8, 2010

Horse Neigh and in spanish Caballo Relinchar. dog bark, perro ladrar of course those are infinatives so they would have to be congugated in a sentence.

You actually give the name of activity and not the sounds. Relinchar is the process of making the sound jiiiii. At least it's how I understand - Jagodka, Apr 8, 2010
