A third of the way

A third of the way

I'm trying to translate a blog article I wrote about the rule of thirds (photography) and I'm stuck on a certain sentence. Talking about the horizon in a landscape photo I'm describing the rule which says you should position it "a third of the way from the top or bottom". The closest I have got to the quoted phrase is "un tercio de la distancia de lo alto o del fondo", but it sounds really clumsy when I read it. Am I even close? wink Does anyone have any better ways of phrasing this please?

Thanks in advance!

My guess would be 'un tercio de la parte de arriba o de abajo.'

I just wanted to say you might consider adding Google's translator tool to your website. I added it to this blog about cellphones as it gets hits worldwide. It lets you select which language you want to view the site in and then refreshes the page in the selected language.

I guess you might not want to use it for Spanish necessarily (as it is not always too accurate), but you could use it for other languages.

Webdunce: Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not a big fan of machine translation. I think I'll leave it up to the visitor to use whatever translation method they prefer using good old cut and paste! I'm only translating it into Spanish because I live in Spain and it's good practice.
