During one of my audio learning sessions, I came across something a bit confusing. This unit is about directions involving aqui (here) and alli (there), however, thats not the confusing part. It's when they involved "él" and "la" that I became confused.

At first, it started out as introducing the word, "hotel"

"Donde está hotel?" "él hotel." "donde está?"

(I also wonder, is it "está" or "esta"?)

And then they introduce the word, "restaurante"

"Donde está (or esta?) él restaurante" "él restaurante está aqui"

Why is the "él" added next "restaurante" suddenly when it wasn't for "hotel"? Is it necessary to add the "él", or could I simply say"donde está restaurante?"?

Está........Is, from the verb Estar...To be

Esta........This (female gender)

él........he or him

el and la ...........definite articles (The)

The question should be "¿Donde está el hotel?" and "¿Donde está el restaurante?"

That makes a lot more sense with the está part haha thank you. Do we absolutly always add the article "el" or "la" to a noun? Are there any expections perhaps?
