¿El Señor Jones?

¿El Señor Jones?

Why would you want to say "Soy el señor Jones" instead of "Soy señor Jones"? Does it matter whether the "el" is in there or not?

In this case the "el" is not accented, as it means "the", not "him".

I cannot give you the technical explanation why this is so, but titles and honorifics are always preceded by the definite article "el", "la":

El señor, la señora, el doctor, la doña, and so forth.

Right. When you are addressing el Señor Jones, you don't need the "el," but when you are referring to him, you need the "el." - MacFadden, Apr 4, 2010
