¡Hola a todos!

Cómo se dice las siguientes palabras en inglés (o una palabra casi similiar) y cuál es el origin de las palabras (la palabra original, ej. "shoot" en inglés viene de "****"). ¡Muchas gracias por su ayuda!

  1. ¡Miércoles!
  2. ¡Me cachis!
  3. Caray/Caramba!
  4. ¡Híjole!
  5. ¡Pucha! Gracias,

Kerri

Hey, Kerri. I think it's ok if you have one thread open about euphemisms. Of course by now you know that foul language and questionable words are not allowed openly in the Forum (familiy rating and all that), so I had to edit your question.

I also would like to suggest that you can make this into an interesting ONE thread where people can provide the Spanish-English euphemisms they can think of.

No all-out curse words, though.

Darn! or Darn it! -> ¡caray! , ¡caramba! , ¡maldita sea! , ¡maldición!

Shoot! -> ¡chin! (español de México) , ¡Huy! , ¡ay! (expressing pain)

Gee! or Gosh! -> vaya! , ¡híjole! (español de México)

What the heck! -> ¡qué demonios!

"Cara**" is considered a bad word in some places. To me, it sits right there on the edge - definitely not to be used in polite company. It has an interesting origin, but nowadays it's used as an expleitive. The corresponding euphemisms is "caracho"! - Gekkosan, Apr 4, 2010
