Please help with preterit vs. imperfect

In the following sentence would the verb decir be in the preterit or imperfect tense? ¿Qué te decía el encargado ayer? or ¿Qué te dijo el encargado ayer? My guess is preterit because this a completed action within a specified time frame. ...and is this the correct translation? What did the super tell you yesterday?

Yes, your translation is correct, and 'decir' should be in the preterit.
