Había planeado arreglar algunos drenajes de la casa pero como se encuentra cerrada la tlapalería el día de hoy, me pondré a trabajar en el jardín.

Good job! Especially with the accent on "que" (because it's in a question).
You don't need the "yo" before "voy" because the conjugation of the verb makes it clear that you are talking about you.

"Yo voy a ...." is also very common -- but yes the "Yo" is not required. - Daniel, Apr 4, 2010
