¿Cómo se dice 'lighter fluid' en español?
This websites dictionary says lighter fluid translates as 'gas para mecheros'. I have two questions about this. 1.) Why wouldn't it be 'fluido' or 'líquido' instead of gas? 2.) Why is para used? Is the idea 'fluid for lighter'? If that is the case why wouldn't it be 'combustible (fuel) para mecheros'? I know this is probably a simple question but please bear with me, I am new at this. Thanks.

Because the lighter goes with gas , not with any fluid . lol .
Gas para mecheros = gas for lighters . para=for
.

Becuse is not the same . There are lighters going with gas ( the more usual here ) ,
and there are lighters going with fuel ( have you even see before a Zippo lighter? )
The tin I have here says Recambio Multi-Uso para Encendedores de Bencina
English: Multi-Purpose Petrol Lighter Refill
The translator says líquido de encendedor if you put in "lighter fluid"
