Hi Sanlee.

I found this in the dictionary:

1) Unemployed = desempleado

2) Unemployment benefit or compensation = subsidio desempleo

I'm not sure how to say "laid off," so let's wait and see what others have to say. grin

lay off : reajustes. Ex. I was laid off from my job. "Me reajustaron de mi trabajo" unemployed: Sin trabajo, sin empleo.
