Cazar means "to hunt". It can be used in the sense of, "I couldn't catch a word," and thus sort of mean "understand". But that's an idiomatic use.

By the way, "entender" is the other comonly used word that means "to understand".

Creo que cazar significa "to hunt" o "to catch".

Pimsleur (is that a bad word here??*) uses entiendo for I understand.

*It is a set of Spanish conversational CDs for beginners.

Of course it's not a bad word here. CD sets like Pimsleur, Learning Like Crazy, and Learn in your Car are a very valuable resource for learners. - Goyo, Apr 2, 2010

Although cazar might be able to be substituted for comprender on occasion, I have never heard it used that way.
