En el patio de adobe, las mujeres estan conversando; la luna
es visible durante el día mientras ellas comparten un momento.
In the adobe patio, the women are having a conversation; the moon
is visible in the daytime, as the two of them are sharing a moment.
La anciana le da a Azucena algunos consejos sobre la vida y los hombres;
“La vida tiene su límite; un día te vas a quedar sola con tus recuerdos.”
The old lady gives Azucena some wise advice about life and men;
"Life has an end; one day you are left with your memories only."
“Puedes hacer sólo hasta cierto punto” le dice a la muchacha;
“esta vida es una telaraña del destino, no puedes cambiarlo.”
"You can only manage up to a certain point", the girl is told;
"this life is woven of destiny, one can't do anything about it."
Le cuenta cosas que uno tendría que ser vieja para comprender;
así que Azucena, muy respetuosamente esta sentada escuchándola.
She tells her things one had to be to be old to understand;
so Azucena, very respectfully is sitting and listening to her.
“Los muchachos malos te dicen mentiras” dice, meneando su cabeza como
una fiera entonces mira adentro “los buenos se mienten a ellos mismos”
"The bad boys tell you lies." she said, shaking her head fiercely;
then she looks inside and she says "the good boys lie to themselves"
Azucena salio en sueños mientras Alegunda seguía con su historia;
sus ojos se hicieron redondos mientras los de la vieja, almendras.
Azucena flew off into dazes as Alegunda rambled on her history;
her black eyes grew round and the old woman’s eyes were almonds.
“’Estoy enamorado de ti” “Nunca jamás he conocido a alguien como tú!’”
los muchachos las han dicho esto a las chachas desde la antigüedad”
"'I am in love with you' 'I have never ever known anyone like you'";
the boys have been saying this to the girls since very ancient times"
“Han estado usando las mismitas palabras desde vinieron los españoles”
esto es lo que Alegunda le dice, sentada allí en el pasillo de adobe.
"They've been using the same exact words since the Spanish men came"
this is what Alegunda tells her, sitting there in the adobe hallway.
Azucena podía haber recordado que Arturo le dijo a ella esas mismas
palabras pero parecía no recordar o a lo mejor ella no... escuchaba.
Azucena may have remembered that Arturo had said these words to her;
but she does not seem to remember, perhaps she doesn´t... she listens.

“Puedes hacer sólo hasta cierto punto” I would substitute this statement with "Todo tiene su límite" entonces mira adentro “los buenos se mienten a ellos mismos” substitute with: entonces mira hacia adentro y le dice "los muchachos buenos se mienten a si mismos". los muchachos las han dicho esto a las chachas desde la antigüedad” "los muchachos les han dicho esto a las muchachas desde los tiempos antiguos" Chachas is referred to ladies that clean houses, so use muchachas.
Han estado usando las mismitas palabras desde vinieron los españoles” Han estado usando las mismas palabras desde que vinieron los españoles.
