Sorry Renae, my attempt a reply to your "poner algo claro" thread led me to ask this. Can you make yourself clear with poner algo claro, or just something ie algo. Pensé que me poné claro cuando te dije dejar de llamarme.

I think you can use the construct you indicated, but you need to conjugate poner correctly. "Pensé que me puse claro cuando te dije dejar de llamarme."

I would probably say: "Pensé que puse en claro cuando te dije que me dejaras de llamar". - 00e46f15, Apr 1, 2010

Pensé que había sido claro cuando te dije que me dejaras de llamar. I thought I made myself clear when I told you to stop calling me.

Your version seems appropriate as well, Jeezle, as long as you remember to conjugate like Calvo suggests...maybe a native could tell us which or possibly if both flow fine.

So you can't use poner. The reason I ask is because of Renae's new thread which use Poner algo claro to mean make something clear. It seems odd that you can't use that same phrase to meant his. Oh well. Pensé que había sido claro cuando cuando te dije que me dejaras de llamar. I find dejaras odd as well. You don't make yourself clear here either then...Que oscuro.

I thought I let myself self clear when... You can use poner if you say "Te voy a poner algo en claro" It sound like a threat. "I am going to clear this out for you"... - 00e46f15, Apr 1, 2010
