I keep getting "ritmo" but that refers to the overall rhythm of the music. I need the words or phrase that means the individual beat.

Here is a link to a thread I started last summer. There are a lot of musical definitions in the answers that you might find beneficial. When I looked in the Spanish music dictionary, they used the English word "beat". It may be that this word is understood to Spanish speaking people.

Unfortunately, it is too late to contact my Spanish speaking musician friends right now. But if I find out anything different, I will add it to this post. smile music thread

If you could explain that widely... I remember the word "tiempo" for example "compás de cuatro tiempos", "tócalo en dos tiempos", indeed I remember a special button called "tempo" on my keyboard.

In English, we call a music notation like this, "4/4", as four-four(th) time, which means four beats per measure. If tiempo is time, then tiempo could mean "beat". Tempo refers to the speed of the music, i.e. how soon do the beats follow each other. - Rikko, Apr 1, 2010

I had lessons in piano when I was young and I remember my teacher saying "cada tiempo" occasionally. I don't know if that is correct Spanish, but maybe that's how it is said in music. My teacher then was an old lady, so she was around when Spanish was still much in use here.

It very well could be. When I was looking this up, I found a few words. One word (forget what it was) was used only in Puerto Rico. - Nicole-B, Mar 31, 2010
I'm hoping we can start adding many of these terms to the new Phrasebook to help clear up some of the confusion. - Nicole-B, Mar 31, 2010

I believe that "el toque" is the word used to refer to "beat" in music. I am going to look through some other information I have and get back to you if this is incorrect.

So in your case you might say "cada toque" for each beat.
