"None" of us are happy

I wonder how I would say this. Seems like it would just be "No hay nadie aquí que está feliz".

I agree with Gekk: "Ninguno de nosotros es feliz" or "Ninguno de nosotros está feliz"

No hay nadie aquí que esté feliz.

Requires subjunctive.

In English it really should be "None of us is happy." But that's according to strict grammar rules. Many people would use the plural.

I don't think so Calvo, general rule is to strip it: None IS happy vs None ARE happy. - jeezzle, Mar 31, 2010
Desde el punto de vista estrictamente técnico, estoy de acuerdo. Ahora, si suena natural es otra cosa, ¿no? - Gekkosan, Mar 31, 2010
"None" was originally a contraction of "no one". Still singular. None IS happy. - CalvoViejo, Mar 31, 2010

Hmm.. I don't hear ninguno too often although I did learn it... No hay ninguna persona aquí que está feliz. Is this right?

Better, but too complicated. Simpler is: Ninguno de nosotros está feliz. - Gekkosan, Mar 31, 2010
What you have is grammatically correct. - luhzon89, Mar 31, 2010

Eugh no! That's what "ninguno" was invented for!

Want to give it a try with this word? grin
