Hm... I would use slightly different wording for this to sound natural to me:
"Siempre se enfrascan en una fuerte competencia por recursos en el interior del barrio, por ejemplo espacio, trabajos y otras instalaciones públicas."

There may well be better choices but, if you want to use those particular words, then "competición severa" would be better.
