how come we learn certain words, but there several other ways to say a word?

Because there are so many Spanish speaking countries, who each have their own specific ways to say something. Even within a country there can be regional differences in the way something is said. Which makes it all the more interesting to learn 
You can learn everyday Spanish by making friends with native speakers, reading books and magazines, watching Spanish television, listening to music, the options are endless! Be creative and most of all; have fun!
