What's the best phrase to translate a "crawl space?"
a crawl space is the type of foundation in a house that's a few feet above ground level. The space in between the first floor and the ground is not living space - it's usually used for ventilation and ductwork. I've found - "espacio entre plantas" - which seems to translate 'space between floors' which is not correct and "espado del arrastrre" which seems a little too literal. Does anyone have a suggestion? Latin American usage, if possible. thanks!

Maybe this....
Mirábamos por todas partes para el gato y finalmente lo encontramos en el espacio del arrastre debajo de la casa.
