Please help translate: la punta del puro apagado

Bajo su poblado bigote, medio cano y medio rojo, esconde la punta del puro apagado.

I understand that punta is point, and apagado is something related with "out". But what does it mean?

Hello,

It means that he has the butt of his un-lit or smoked cigar in his mouth, hidden by his mustache. Punta = tip, el puro = cigar, apagado = off.

It is a cool visual.

Hope this helps.

el puro = the cigar

he had the stump of un unlit cigar in his mouth

I think you say stump to the very end of the cigar, when almost nothing is left.

I suspect that "punto" would have been better. jeje - samdie, Mar 23, 2010

I think that the "stump" could be almost any part (up to about 1/2) of the cigar. It certainly means the remainder after some/most has been smoked. Using the word "stump" gets around the the problem of the use of "unlit" in the previous response. The problem with "unlit" (absent some additional information) is that it includes a fresh cigar that has never been lit, while "apagado" means that it had been lit but "went out".
