Hey, they offered me pie (possibly pastries) that was made by María...but my diet doesn't permit this delicious food.

I agree. While "turnover" or "pasties" are common acceptable translations for "empanada"; the fact is that in Latin America an "empanada" has a unique identity that is as strong as say a "taco" or a "burrito" in Mexico. - Gekkosan, Mar 23, 2010
