A la perversidad del imperio inglés, nosotros habiamos opuesto una genorosidad sin limites
Having trouble with this, I can't seem to get the full sense. Is he saying " we had set up a boundless generosity against the depravity of the imperial English"" I can't get the sense of this. Please help.

HI bird, yes, that is it. In other words
El imperio inglés era perverso pero en vez de contestar con la misma perversidad nosotros le contestamos con una generosidad ilimitada

Thanks for that. It still seems odd to me but I do get the sense you outline. I think I'm suffering from translation fatigue.
