Is "mina de lapiz" pencil lead?
The features on a template I just received are written in two languages, English and Spanish. I think that the three words "mina de lapiz" is, in English, "pencil lead". Is this correct?

I'm going to double post so that I am sure that you get my correction, stanshelton. I just checked with a Mexican friend and she said that "mina de lápiz" is totally acceptable.

In Mexico I have heard it called "plomo de lápiz". The word for "lead" is "plomo". The word for "mine" is "mina". I've never heard that word used along with the word "lápiz" but - who knows? - it may be said that way somewhere. On the other hand, sometime the google translator comes up with some interesting combinations of words...
As Mountaingirl says: I've heard only the word "plomo" used for lead.
However, our dictionary says one of the meanings of "mina" is the lead of a pencil.
That is what the Google translator comes up with.
