amigo viejo?

When you mean to say "my old friend" and not mean that the person is old, but rather than you have been friends for a long time, do you say "mi amigo viejo" or is there another way to say it or does "mi amigo viejo" mean either way?

This is often used as an example in teaching the location of adjectives in relation to the noun that they modify.

mi viejo amigo=my old acquaintance

mi amigo viejo=my aged friend (de tercera edad)

differentiating, descriptive adjectives (viejo=aged) follow the noun

quantitative and qualitative adjectives precede the noun
