How do you say multiplied by in spanish? For example if you wanted to say: The number of giraffes in the area multiplied by 5 times between 1990 and 2000. I have put "multiplicó por" but I'm not sure if this is correct. ¡Gracias por su ayuda!

Thanks quentin, the correct answer is:

se multiplicó por.....

Fue multiplicado would mean that somebody had their hands in it, I guess they simply mean, the number of giraffes was 5 times more abundant in the year 2000.

"El número de jirafas en el área multiplicados por cinco entre 1990 y el 2000".

the word "times" is not used in this case.

That doesn't look correct. "se multiplicó" (was multiplied) multiplicado is not a conjugated verb, but a past participle. - 0074b507, Mar 7, 2010
El número de jirafas fue mulitiplicado por cinco (passive voice) seems better. - 0074b507, Mar 7, 2010

"Multiplicado por" es lo correcto.
