"Uds maes"

"Uds maes"

On a Facebook page of a band I recently started listening to, people refer to the band with "Uds maes" or, when it's just to one member "mae".

I'm guessing this is short for "maestro"... in this case is it directly translated as "you maestros" in English? Or is it being used as "you masters' or "you teachers" instead?

How common is it for fans to refer to bands with this phrase?

Are you sure you were looking at a Spanish page? From the looks of it, I suspect you may have stumbled upon a page in Catalan or Galician, or perhaps Spanish with a few words in those languages, which is something not at all uncommon in some parts of Spain. In any event, that phrase "Uds maes" is not Spanish.

It was definitely Spanish. It was a Costa Rican band and most of the comments were from people from Costa Rica. :) - Luciente, Mar 8, 2010
