A question on my homework reads: En qué sentido la cuestión de la honra ha sido de apariencia? What does "de apariencia" mean in this context?

Of or for the sake of appearance only.
The person wanted it to look like they were doing the honorable thing, but it was for appearance only. Their motives weren't honorable.
"for show".
