Welcome to Spanishdict.com. Follow link: buen to the dictionary and click on the little speaker symbol next to the word and it will be pronounced for you. If for some reason you can't hear it, it's pronounced more or less "bwen"

By all means, listen to the (synthesized) pronunciation provided by the dictionary entry. Bastardized English "pseudo-spellings" can be very misleading. If you imagine that "bwen" (as already provided) rhymes with "when", you're in trouble. If, anything, "bwain" (to rhyme with "twain") would be closer but it's still not right. Basically, the sound of Spanish simply does not exist in English. There are various of "sorta like" versions but none is exact.

Most of the questions that are posted here concern consonants but, in point of fact, the thing that most characterizes English speakers when they attempt to speak Spanish, is the way that they (we) distort vowels.

The best way is to simply learn to associate Spanish sounds with Spanish spelling. The "Spanish word sounds "sorta" like the English ..." approach can, at best, result in you're sounding like an English speaker who "sorta" speaks Spanish.

If, for whatever reason, you cannot resist trying to relate the sounds of Spanish to those of English, your concentration should be not on "what is the most similar sound in English" but, rather, on "how does the Spanish sound differ from the closest approximation in English. If you look for similarities, you will, of course, find them but, in the process, you will have told yourself to ignore "minor differences".and it precisely those differences that make the difference.
